Transit pass discount for those participating in Active 55+ programming

Tuesday, August 15, 2023

The City of Sault Ste. Marie has launched a pilot program aimed at enhancing access to transit services for those participating in programming at the Active 55+ Centres. The program promotes easy and accessible transportation options for older adults, especially those who do not drive.

Beginning September 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024, a discounted rate on Transit passes will be available for seniors attending programming at the Bay Street and Northern Community Centre Active Living Centres. Adults who take the bus to programming will receive a 12-ride pass at a reduced cost of $5. This discount represents 75% off the regular price of $20.45.

"We are pleased to offer this service as a great way to enhance mobility options for adults in our community. Transit Services are readily available and easy to use for everyone," said Brent Lamming, Director of Community Services.

The program includes educational sessions on bus orientation where staff will guide participants through the features of the bus as well as route planning, trip navigation and requesting a stop. The discounted passes are available for purchase at both Active 55+ Living Centres on Bay Street and the Northern Community Centre. For more information or to purchase discounted senior Transit passes, visit the Active55+ Centres or call 705-254-6474.
