Applications are open for the City's Green Initiatives Fund

The City of Sault Ste. Marie’s Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC) is kicking off the 2024 Green Initiatives Fund project with a new
promotional video designed to increase participation.
Established in 2021, the Green Initiatives Fund provides financial support for community projects or activities that demonstrate environmental benefits while aligning with City policies. Eligible projects may include greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, water quality improvements/rehabilitation, enhanced energy efficiency, development of heathy and resilient ecosystems, habitat restoration, active transportation, and waste reduction.
The latest version of the fund broadens eligibility criteria to include applications from local schools, school groups, committees as well as unincorporated organizations and collectives with a minimum of two members, operational for at least one year. Additionally, local non-profits and City Departments remain eligible to apply. Applications are accepted quarterly, reviewed by the ESC, and subsequently recommended for Council approval. The fund, with a total allocation of $50,000 for all projects, operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for the first intake of applications is March 29.
