City's New Strategic Plan Results in Organizational Changes

City Council approved its
2016-2020 Corporate Strategic Plan at the June 27, 2016 meeting. The Plan identifies priority directions and core themes that will be undertaken by the corporation in the next five years. Strategic focus areas include: infrastructure, service delivery, quality of life and community development.
To align the corporation with the new Plan, a number of organizational changes will be implemented, effective June 27, 2016. The
organization's structure will comprise of two current municipal functional areas and three newly created service areas all reporting through the CAO's Office.

City Legal and Emergency Services remain intact while the three new areas are Public Works and Engineering Services, Community Development and Enterprise Services, and Corporate Services.

The senior managers in these positions include City Solicitor Nuala Kenny and Fire Chief Mike Figliola whose respective departments and responsibilities remain unchanged as well as Larry Girardi, Deputy CAO, Public Works and Engineering Services and Malcolm White, Deputy CAO and Clerk, Corporate Services.

The Deputy CAO position for Community Development and Enterprise Services will be posted shortly both internal and external to the organization.

Social Services is in the process of transitioning to the District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) effective September 25, 2016. In the meantime, this area will continue to report through the CAO's Office via Acting Commissioner Jeff Barban.
"Senior positions will be established immediately; however, it is expected to take several weeks to finalize our organizational alignment. These changes strengthen our organization and will improve overall efficiencies and effectiveness in delivering the corporation's new Strategic Plan. Staff looks forward to continuing to work with Council and community stakeholders as we move ahead to deliver this exciting agenda," says Al Horsman, City of Sault Ste. Marie CAO.
